Jacob Wurtz - Happy Feet Plus co-owner An appreciation of nature and a commitment to the environment has always been an integral part of Happy Feet Plus co-founder Jacob Wurtz. Growing up outside of Ottawa, Canada provided Jacob with an exposure to rural life and an understanding of the value of healthy living.
After migrating to Florida, Jacob and childhood friend Jane Strong called on that background when they decided to open the first Happy Feet Plus location in 1985. The business was built on offering a Japanese massage sandal and a then little-known German sandal called Birkenstock.
Jacob has continued his commitment to the environment by utilizing environmentally-friendly materials in all of the Happy Feet Plus stores. In 2004 Happy Feet Plus opened the first LEED gold certified retail building in the U.S. Being a "green" business isn't always about saving money - it's about doing what's right for the greater good.
